Northside Food Pantries supported by NFPA:
The pantries below are supported by our NFPA donor collaborative. They purchase fresh produce and toilet paper and are reimbursed monthly. Details vary, as explained below.
St. Michael's and All Saints Lutheran Church in Spring Garden, 1308 Spring Garden Rd., has one distribution per month on the third Saturday, supporting 30-36 families. NFPA Executive Committee member Jana Thompson volunteers as their coordinator and primary contact with the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank (GPCFB). NFPA’s $400 monthly financial support provides $100 for toilet paper and $300 for fresh produce.
Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, 2000 Brighton Rd., has one distribution per month on the second Saturday, supporting 40-50 families. NFPA’s $500 monthly financial support provides $200 for toilet paper and $300 for fresh produce.
Light of Life Food Pantry reopened in its new location at 720 E. Lacock Ave in the summer of 2025. They distribute weekly on Wednesdays and Fridays. Their client base has been growing since their recent move. NFPA currently commits $2,600 monthly in financial support: $400 for toilet paper and $2,200 for fresh produce.
Cityview Church distributes every Wednesday from 816 Tripoli St. in Northside’s Deutschtown neighborhood. This pantry is self-funded, other than NFPA support, and is not a member of the GPCFB, as Cityview strives to be a low-barrier supporter of the unhoused. NFPA currently provides up to $1,750 monthly: $250 for toilet paper and $1,500 in fresh produce.
Pittsburgh Higher Ground distributes at 3505 Perrysville on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month to 80+ families. NFPA engagement has also allowed Pittsburgh Higher Ground to enroll in the Emergency Food Assistance Program, a federal program, greatly stretching the dollars spent. NFPA dollars currently cover $1,500 per month for distributions.
Freeman Family Farm, 1426 Juniata St. in Manchester, is a pay-what-you-can-afford model of locally-sourced farm products. Up to $500 is available to the Freeman Family Farm each month from NFPA for vulnerable customers.
